What About the Children?

As I waited for my son during his second examination at school around 11 AM, I struck up a conversation with another mom also waiting for her son. She mentioned she was leaving for Japan later that evening to join her husband who had gone there ahead of her, leaving behind her two sons.

As we talked, I couldn't help but feel sorry for her sons – they were so young to be separated from their mother. It's undoubtedly a painful sacrifice and a significant decision she's made, all in the hopes of providing her children with a better life.

I asked her why she still wanted to go to Japan since her husband was already there working for them. Her response was that both of them needed to work to earn faster. But what about the children?

In our pursuit of providing better opportunities for our children, we sometimes overlook crucial aspects of family life, such as quality time, shaping them into better individuals, and the tender loving care that only parents can provide.

I'm not claiming to be perfect; I face the same dilemma. My husband is away working hard to give us a better life. However, I couldn't bear to leave my young children behind to work elsewhere. Instead, I've chosen to give up my full-time job and settle for a part-time one so I can better care for them. Ultimately, I've never regretted my decision because it has allowed me to be closer to my kids. The mere thought of being separated from them pains me deeply.

As the other mom and I parted ways, we did so with tears in our eyes. We are mothers, after all, and the love between a mother and her child knows no bounds. It's the greatest example of what God's love is all about.
