Astrology, Horoscopes and Tarot

Ever since I was young, I've always looked up on my horoscope to know what is in store for me that particular day. I know it's a random premonition, and it's just a general idea of what could be, but there are times that when I was not thinking about it and I reflect at the end of the day, reread my horoscope, and voila! It matched!

I also have this habit on going over astrology and look over my profile (I'm a snake, fire element, and a virgo) and try to compare it with other signs (matchmaking here) and I would then know who I'm more compatible with (you know, chinese astrology is apt with your moods, general profile, positive and negative traits - more of it true for me - and even what specific health issues you are more prone with).

Now what I do not really like tinkering with was tarot since it really can be creepy at times. Although compared to horoscope which is generally safe and pleasing to read, tarot has the ability to predict even the negative aspect of your life (which most of us do not really like, right?) and frankly speaking, there are other aspect of prediction that really can be creepy (I did this 'game' once in a tarot magazine, and it turned out to be true, creepy really).

So between astrology, horoscopes and tarot, I'm not too daring with the tarot.

Spa's Good List

I was reading my Spa subscription and I learned a thing or two regarding what's good and what's not.

Point 1 is to put houseplants like English Ivy and spider plants to minimize the pollution inside our house (which is also equivalent to the pollution outside), and yes, do dusting every now and then.

Point 2 is to eat anchovies, mackerel and sardines more since they are rich in omega-3s with low contaminant levels.

Point 3 is BYOC means bring your own cup. Basically makes you save trees for the effort and the best thing about that, you get discounts in coffee shops when you're BYOC!

Point 4 is to change light bulbs into LEDs which is energy-saver (hmmm...that I remember telling hubby to change this yellow light to white since yellow makes my eyes sore - not a very good source of light for reading).

Point 5 is laundry. A lot can mean residue on clothes (can cause allergy too) and this is good, making your own detergent by mixing these: Use ¼ cup each of washing soda (also known as soda ash) and borax (both available at Soaps Gone Buy) and add in ½ cup of vinegar to whiten and soften (From The Naturally Clean Home by Karyn Siegel-Maier). Hmm, maybe I'll try this one (the detergents making me itch).

Point 6 is to go organic (this is way too pricey sometimes) but healthy. Keep away from processed foods which has sodium nitrite and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) both of which are carcinogens.

Point 7 is to exercise without spending much. I would want to do workout like the ones Jessica Biel is doing (hahaha, as if I could get that bod, but hey, no harm in trying) and I am going natural these days by going up and down the stairs to do chores.

Point 8 is do garden. I've been planning to do this even before I got here, but never got the time to really do it. Now is now!

My Life Would Suck Without You

I'm having replays of this song in my head and I can't get it out of my head...

Lyrics | Kelly Clarkson Lyrics | My Life Would Suck Without You Lyrics

Light in the Dark

We were tagging along hubby to his cell sites when one particular incident made us decide that next time, we should bring along flashlights (we don't own one, that time).

We were early in that particular cell site (a two-hour drive from home) located in Grapeland, Texas and we got there around three o'clock in the afternoon. Hubby thought he would only be there for an hour or two, so he decided to bring us with him. But, unfortunately for all of us, that particular cell site's equipments managed to get glitches one after the other making us stay there for over six hours!!! And the one thing that we need, we didn't bring!

Lesson for that day? Bring flashlights. And hubby bought two Surefire Flashlights that particular day when we're about to go home. Too late for that but at least, we would be able to bring those two next time.

Susan Boyle Is Amazing!!!

The most amazing thing and one of the most touching scenes I've ever saw was this - a simpleton with too ordinary looks, aging at 47, stunned thousands of people in Britain Got Talent when she sang Les Miserables 'I Dream A Dream'. This is an OMG!!! Here's the link to that video and I tell you, you will be amazed!

More on Susan Boyle

This got me crying a little more...

Prison Break Has Ended

To the dismay of all the fans of Prison Break, it finally folded not as nicely as we all had hope. The series was done in all four seasons (we were expecting five), with Michael with it (after all the challenges he faced breaking barriers, he succumbed to his ultimate enemy, battling his tumor), leaving behind his Sarah and son. Mahone got together with his friend (his partner), Sucre was back again and T-Bag was back in Fox River. The only good thing there was that, they all got unhitched from crimes (Sarah,Mahone, Sucre, Burrows). There's all gotta be an ending in every story, sigh. Full episodes can be seen in Fox - here.

The Rock

One day, God had a work for me to do. He showed me a rock and told me to push it with all my might.

For many years, I pushed and pushed but nothing happened. The rock hasn’t moved even an inch.

In discouragement, I asked God why I am failing.

God responded: ‘Your task is to push the rock. Never did mention that you move it. Now I, my child, will move the rock.’

Obedience to God is easy if we only know how to listen. He doesn’t want us to suffer; He only wants us to LEARN.

***Sometimes in our haste, we do things we're not meant to do, but we do it anyway.

Song Hye Kyo is Hwangjin-Y

My favorite Korean star Song Hye Kyo plays the courtesan in Hwangjin-Y. I remember the movie Memoirs of Geisha and makes me curious how SHK played the part of a courtesan. I've only seen her in Full House as wacky and her first movie as cute and safe. But being a courtesan is another thing and this I got to see!

Managing Stresses

One of the things I've noticed as we are getting older is the fact that we also accumulate stress. Since the world and life is more complicated, our emotions becomes reactive, and at times (most of the time, in fact) we react to situations negatively and thus add further stress to ourselves. The things that some people did (i.e. murder, suicide) is because of the way they react to the daily stresses, the way they handled the biggest stresses (like being laid off) and because of not knowing how to handle or nobody to turn or talk to (if only there is some way to emphasize the importance of stress management education).

Just last night, I took the liberty of going over the Stress Institute webpage and I instantly liked the tips on reducing stress. I am actually practicing breathing through the diaphragm (which is really hard but it has its benefits) since when we are stressed (most of us actually, especially women) we tend to do the upper breathing (I forgot how they call that). I say common in us women, because we tend to breathe through our chest especially when we wear constricted clothing (vanity speaks) or when we arxiety mgte trying to hold our breath (to make our belly look smaller, haha!). Try breathing through the diaphragm, it really is relaxing. You'll notice how different you breathe when relax and when not.

Anyway, back to the Institute. I was, at first, not taken with how the site looks but then again, the content and the links that they offer compensate for the facade. I especially like the dropdown menu for the stress management because it offers a lot of tips for stress reduction. I went through the resources and I like the fact that it's complete.

I'm no expert, I know. But, I am trying to cut my stress in half. You see, I've tried and I'm trying to lessen my stress by doing these things - acupressure (I'm not keen on puncture thing), meditation, breathing, music, hypnosis (yes, hypnosis), prayer, writing, positive quotes, yoga (I'm not really true blue yoga - but I found a book on quick yoga for busy peeps), thinking positively and a hug (they said a hug increases the body's immune system, okay, where did I get that?).

Managing stresses is actually something that only an individual can do for himself. There are a lof of tips and suggestions like Stress Institute can instill in us, but it's up to us how we are going to manage stress, each one of us approaches stress differently, thus the need for truly identifying something as stress, and finding ways to reduce it. If you don't know your stresses, or you have no idea how stressed you are, I think an institute will do you good.

The Climb

Eversince I heard this song, I just love it! From the series turned movie Hannah Montana (not a fan, but my kids always, always watch her show), turned out that this kid of Billy Cyrus got more fame!

I love the song because I can relate. It's when you are trying to reach your dream, in taking chances, in taking risks, when you feel that you're almost there living your dream, all of a sudden you faltered. Then it will come all of a sudden to you - what am I doing here? Asking yourself if this is the life you want to live, or if you're really living the dream that you hoped for.

Then, all can seem so overwhelming, then you just grip on your faith and keep on moving. Then, as the song goes, it's not how fast you get there, or what the outcome might be, but the journey. Yeah, the times when we remember things, we remember the moments - the things you've done trying to get where you want to be.

In Loving

LOVING © Adam1975 | Dreamstime.com

Giving someone all your love
is never an assurance that they’ll love you back.

Don’t expect love in return.
Just wait for it to grow in their hearts
but if it doesn’t,
be content it grew in yours.

A Carrot, An Egg and A Cup of Coffee

You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft.

The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I ?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat?
Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart ?

Or am I like the coffee bean ? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level ? How do you handle adversity ? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean ?

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

"It's easier to build a child than repair an adult."

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.(An excerpt)

Think Optimism

Take a moment and think: Are you actually doing what you want to be doing? Here's how to discover what really floats your boat.

You have to start by changing the story you tell yourself about getting older...The minute you say to yourself, 'Time is everything, and I'm going to make sure that time is used the way I dream it should be used,' then you've got a whole different story.
—Diane Sawyer

The minute we start thinking positively, tis the time we feel things to be different, positively uplifting kind of different. Then we become motivated to do more, be more, become more. We feel alive when our spirit is uplifted, when our morale is intact and when we have inspirations. No matter what the outcome, when we think with optimism, then everything we do becomes a story the way we wanted it to be.

The Rule of TEN

(THROWAWAY THINGS), gather ten things to throw away even if it is only ten pieces of paper. Get them in the trash immediately.

(GIVE-AWAY THINGS), gather ten things to give away. Scoot them out of the house (preferably to the nearest charity) ASAP. If you can't get them to the charity today, put them in the car to be dropped off next trip or store them in the garage to be picked up by the charity.

(MINUTES), set a timer for ten minutes and attack a hot spot with a vengeance.

Space is Definitely Beauty

"Space is not something to fill with beauty.
Space is beauty."

This was a quote from Messies.com, and they were not talking about NASA, but a spacious home that is. I, for one, loves space, not because I'm claustrophobic at times, but the feeling and sense of having enough space for anything and everything makes it more appealing, there's a sense of freedom there.

I don't like clutter. My room in fact is bare, with only essentials, and no, it was not boring as I remember because I can put all over my spaces (I mean walls) the things I wanted to see everyday, like a beautiful quote to inspire me, a picture of something amusing or my dream car (when I was younger, I've posted a Volkswagen model in different colors (up to now, I'm still wanting to own one).

Now, in our little, cluttered room, I'm wishing for a bigger space, our own house, in fact.
